And they are off to meet the Kambebas!

With funding from our recent JustGiving campaign, the Kambeba indigneous community have been able to purchase a new laptop. A booster to stablise their Internet connection will, hopefully, mean that they will be able to join our future multi-schools and single-school events in ‘real time’ too. Exciting!

What a busy week it has been!

Whilst I have been working with Liam and Kiran to set up social media accounts to link to our website, Adriana has been putting the final touches in place for her trip to Brazil. Not only will she be visiting her family and friends, but will also spend five days with the Kambeba indigenous community in the heart of the Amazon. No doubt, her and her friend, Marcella, will be treated like royalty by the Kambebas. It will be very emotional, but hugely insightful. It is important that we nurture this unique rapport that we have established, so that we continue to learn from the tribe, e.g. how we can live more sustainably; the importance of the rainforest for medicinal purposes; the impacts of deforestation and climate change, and show empathy, e.g. a greater understanding of their culture, values and beliefs. Adriana, a professional film maker and animator, and Marcella, a photo-journalist, both hope to capture new audio-visual footage whilst they are there to incorporate into our future multi-schools and single-school events, in addition to teaching members of the indigenous community new skills. Do follow their adventures over the next few weeks via the various social media feeds linked to our website, e.g. Facebook; Twitter; Instagram.

After her trip to the Amazon, Adriana also intends to meet with various individuals and organisations to discuss ways in which schools in the UK can engage with teachers and students in Brazil. This will add another dimension to our project for the next academic year and beyond.

Good luck and safe travels, Adriana and Marcella! I am really looking forward to a Zoom call with you and the Kambebas once you arrive too.
