Well, what a busy two weeks it has been!
Towards the end of October, we were fortunate to have the opportunity to collaborate with The Great Imagining (https://www.thegreatimagining.org/) for an initiative at Tate Modern linked to climate change and our future world (https://www.tate.org.uk/).
Click on the web-link below to watch a short movie clip about our venture. I think you will agree that education for sustainability is a great way of building bridges!
Under the guidance of Adriana Meirelles (a professional film director and animator originating from Sao Paulo in Brazil, but now based in Bristol in the UK), the children from the Kambeba indigenous community within the heart of the Amazon worked to create a series of short movie clips to share with youngsters here. They developed new skills in the process and also felt privileged to have the opportunity to showcase their work to a wider audience. Being able to exemplify how they live in harmony with nature is so important, especially in light of recent discussions at COP26. We have so much to learn from their culture, beliefs and way of life; there are plenty of things that we could easily integrate into our own lifestyles and would certainly reap the benefits from. Prior to the current pandemic, Marcella Haddad (a very talented photo-journalist, originally from Brazil, but now living in London) had spent a day with the Kambebas and willingly shared some amazing photographs and video footage with us to incorporate into the exhibition. Both her and Adriana joined those from The Great Imagining at Tate Modern to witness children in the UK engaging with those of a similar age in the heart of the Amazon; very magical and heart-warming.
We were also invited to share what had been achieved at COP26. On Tuesday 9th November 2021, RE-PEAT (https://www.re-peat.earth/) led an Intergenerational Peatland Networking event. It was great to be able to hear from a variety of inspirational people from around the world and have an informal chat with several like-minded individuals, who are very passionate about protecting our planet.
Here’s to further collaborative work in the future, The Great Imagining!
